By our own admission we know very little about how good photography gets made. Aperture? Depth of field? Shutter speed? Yes, we’re sure these things play crucial roles, but hey – fire us – we can’t tell you what they are.
On the other hand, we do know beautiful photography when we see it and so we care – very much – about using the best equipment we can. At the moment we use a Nikon N80 and are delighted – if mystified – by the results.
Why the convulted two paragraphs of introduction? Well, because the only camera we’ve always coveted over our Nikon was a Leica M8. Because it’s that little but smaller and therefore more useable but mostly because, eh, it’s a Leica and, in the world of photography, they don’t come much more mythic than Leica.
The news today from Engadget is that Leica has just opened the order books on the M8′s successor which they’ve imaginatively christened the M9. If, like us, you crave that magnesium-bodied beauty but, unlike us, you have about £ 7,000 to spare, then get yourself down to your nearest Leica dealer. Today’s your big day.
Head on over to Engadget for the full story.

Would love to read a piece by a pro comparing a Leica M8 or M9 to an equivalent Canon/Nikon. Just to be sure the myth is well founded….:)

You’d like a prostitute to write a comparison of these two cameras!? I can’t say that I see what they’d bring to the debate but I certainly like where you head’s at. If you can find one willing to write it, I’ll happily publish it.

I know you’d be there in a flash if I pulled that one off, big fella. They don’t call you The Prodigal Fool for nothing…
Wait a minute, is all this being published online?!!
