Iron Man looks set to blow us all away

We’re gadget fans and movie buffs, so of course we’ve been clamouring to see the Iron Man sequel since the last reel of the first movie. Its assured mix of ludicrous but highly enjoyable action, clever comedy and just a hint of sentimentality proved a winner for Favreau and team first time out and ensured that we were always going to be in line for the sequel. But now that Paramount has released the latest trailer, we’re pretty much beside ourselves with excitement.

Let’s do a quick recap shall we?

For your money, you get the key ingredients from the first film: the genius of Robert Downey Jr as the narcissist yet loveable Tony Stark, the cuteness of Gwyneth Paltrow as his long-suffering assistant Pepper Potts and the proven, capable hands of Jon Favreau in the director’s chair. Now, add: the sexy and dangerous Scarlett Johansson, the unpredictable Mickey Rourke and the intelligent, ever-watchable Sam Rockwell and you have yourself the makings of a great couple of hours in the cinema.

But that’s not all: the producers have ramped up the action and the gadgetry by the looks of this latest trailer too. We get glimpses of the Iron Man suit in a suitcase (now there’s a gadget we’d like to trial here at The Guide), action sequences involving Iron Man and War Machine against a small army of mechanical enemies and – thanks to Tony Stark’s secret identity being revealed in the first film – a whole lot more fun confrontation with the government.

Yep, we’ll put our hat in the ring now and make this simple prediction: this film’s going to blow us all away.
